Kofi the Rhino

On Wednesday the 23rd January at 10.30, a baby rhino was born in the Ol Choro Oirua conservancy in the Maasai Mara. The rangers at Ol Choro have decided that he should be named after the former secretary general of the United Nations Mr Kofi Annan who was recently in the country. The honor was bestowed upon the former secretary general in recognition of his mediation efforts after the disputed presidential elections in Kenya. An Aljazeera reporter has visited the conservancy to do a story on baby Kofi Annan. It was a short 30-second piece about the welfare of wildlife in Kenya during the recent political upset based on Kofi the baby rhino and the importance of wildlife protection. The reporter commented on the drop of tourism revenues and its effect on the people and wildlife in the Kenya. It was a good public relations engagement and the footage if missed live can be viewed if one goes to www.youtube.com and types in Aljazeera Rhino.
